IBS

Definition

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional Gastrointestinal Track disorder characterised by Abdominal pain and Altered Bowel habits in the absence of a specific and unique organic pathology, although microscopic inflammation has been documented in some patients.

Symptoms

  • Postprandial Bowel Movement is a Common Symptom.
  • Mucous with Stool.
  • Diarrhoea usually is described as small volumes of loose stool, with evacuation preceded by urgency or frequent defecation.
  • Some Patients feel Constipation with hard Stool instead of diarrhoea.
  • Abdominal Bloating/Distension.
  • Meals may aggravate Abdominal Pain.
  • Defecation commonly improves pain but may not fully relieve it.
  • Loss of Appetite / Gas Trouble / Hyper Acidity.
  • Weight loss.
  • Low Grade Fever with Body ache.
  • Mental Stress, Breakdown, Anxiety, Depression.
  • Sleep Disturbances.
Symptoms

Causes

  • Overuse of Foods which are heavy to Digest such as Maida( Refined Wheat flour), Potatoes, Black Gram, Chick pea, Kidney Beans, Cashew nut, Peanuts, Chilled Water, High fat milk, Cheese, Sweets, Frozen food, Non veggies like Red meat, Chicken, Fish Etc.
  • Maximum Use of Spices like Red pepper, Black pepper, Cinnamon, Black Mustard seeds Etc.
  • Overuse of foods which increases the level of TRIDOSHA-VATA-PITTA-KAPHA like Brinjal, Radish, Fermented foods like Idli, Dosa, all Bakery items like breads etc.
  • Taking food on uneven time.
  • Addiction like Tea, Coffee, Smoking, Drinking Alcohol, Tobacco.
  • Taking so much Mental Stress, Anxiety.
  • Taking so much Mental Stress, Anxiety.
Causes

Pathology

  • VATA DOSHA and AMADOSHA gets aggravated due to above described causes.
  • Aggravated VATA DOSHA causes alterations in Secretions of neurotransmitters which regulates the signals between Brain and Intestines, that leads to Hyper activities of Intestinal peristaltic movements.
  • Patient feels frequent Bowel movements with or without abdominal pain due to increased intestinal peristalsis, which mostly happens after eating foods or in a condition of Mental Stressz
  • Aggravated AMADOSHA(Half digested, unmetabolised food product) increase the mucous formation in large intestine, which causes symptoms of Mucous with Stool.

Advanced Stage
(Ulcerative Colitis)

  • When untreated IBS gradually progresses, it may cause Ulcers in Intestines.
  • In this Condition Blood comes with Stool in Small to large proportions according to the severity of the disease.
  • Other Symptoms are Same as in IBS.
  • Ulceration in this Condition is due to Aggravated PITTA DOSHA.
Causes

Allopathic Treatment
